Flowers on their last legs highlights my growing appreciation of the process of crafts. I find that the etching gives a sepia tone to the piece that evokes the dull atmosphere of the dying flowers—an effect I could not have achieved with another technique. From cutting the plate to placing the inked plate onto a printing press, each stage of an etching is as technical and important as the next. It is this traditional and delicate approach to image-making that has become crucial to my practice as an illustrator.
